Theecoloogy of life ( continued)

Continuing my ranting on this topic, i find that people nowadays have forgotten to enjoy their life. I dropped out of the rat race when I quit my job with one of India's oldest and best company. Since then , life has been like a melodious song. Having roamed many countries and places in India, I have finally settled at a small place near Delhi and am spending my time in stocks trading, blogging, websurfing, listening to music, keeping myself fit etc etc. Most of my peers are in highly " demanding" and "challenging" jobs and find it hard to understand, how I can survive without a job. Who is right ? Time will tell. I feel that life is too short to be wasted in just earning more and more money and being successful in the eyes of the world. i have spent 40 yrs of my life in getting an edcation and then working in various jobs. Maybe I have 40 to 50 more years of my life still left. I want to spend them in doing things that interest me, rather than in doing what the society feels I should do.

I am not in a hurry. Maybe I will buy a casio keyboard and try to revive my interest in music, Maybe I will take up some voluntary activity designed to help omprove our society or the environment. Maybe I will do something else or maybe I will just let things continue as they are . I really dont know. I am just waiting to see how the future unfolds and what emerges out of the present nothingness.

The ecology of life( continued)

What are the desirable outcomes that each one of us wants from life ? Let me try to make a list :

* Sufficient money to lead a comfortable existence.
* A stable relationship with one's life partner.
* Good health.
* A good upbringing and education for one's children.
* A comfortable, disease free old age free from worries.

The ecology of life ( continued)

What is an ecology ? The dictionary says it is a system which is effected by a number of factors or variables which are in turn interdependent. The life of human beings can be best compared to an ecological system. A persons education, his family, his upbringing, his school, the society he grows up in, the neighbourhood he lives in etc etc all have a bearing on what the person ultimately turns out to be. In addition to these external factors which can be controlled to some extent, are the other "given" conditions like his temperament, his health, his genetic constitution etc which are decided by nature at the time of his birth. Just as in a Mathematics problem, we try to find an optimum solution taking into account all the conditions, so also in life, we have to find an optimum solution to all the deliverables. Behind this obsession with earning money is the subliminal mental model or paradigm which says that money is the solution to all problems.

The ecology of life.

After liberalisation, the numerous opportunities that have come to India have turned people into workaholics. People nowadays are earning lot of money, in fact so much that if they lead a sane life then working for just ten years would enable them to save enough money to last a lifetime. However for this they are paying an enormous price. The question is,why does a person work ? The answer should be that he works in order to be able to lead a comfortable life , look after his family etc etc etc. But owadays, I feel people spend almost their entire life in working, working working. By the time they retire at the age of 60 or so, will they have any energy or stamina left to enjoy the remaining 20 to 30 years. Jobs today involve lot of stress and performance pressure. What would be the effect of these on the health of people ? This only time will tell.

Who am I ?

BY Qualification I am a Mechanical engineer. However my nterests le elsewhere. I love to spend my day in reading, dabbling in the stock market, listening to music ad websurfing. i did work for seventeen years as an Engineer in various steel plants in India, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. However, now I have decided to spend the second half of my life in doing what I like and following my interests. I wish to live the rest of my life as per my own script instead of a script written by my family and my environment.

Nowadays I am exploring the areas of blogging. I wish to further expand my online presence by e-tutoring, e-auctions etc. I am already conducting all my investment activities on the web. I think it is a great thing and gives lot of power to the individual.

I subscribe to a stock recommendations service on yahoo messenger. The guy at the other end gives numerous recommendations everyday, about 30 - 40 % of which work while the rest dont. He makes a lot of noise about the ones which work and very conveniently keeps silent about the ones which do not work.
